FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I get started?

If you are ready to schedule an appointment immediately, click ‘Schedule A Session’ to schedule either an initial intake appointment or a free 20 min meet-up discussion through the client portal.

Please note that all new clients are required to complete intake forms at least 24 hours prior to our first session.

What can I expect at the first session?

First sessions are known as intake sessions. These sessions are casual, comfortable, and approximately 50 minutes long and cover the initial paperwork including covering informed consent, privacy, practice policies, and verbal history of your goals, diagnoses, past treatment, family history, etc. This gives me important information about you and allows us to set goals and start the therapeutic process.

Where are you located?

I am located in Sydney, Australia. Currently, due to past COVID restrictions, I have decided to keep my sessions via Telehealth only at this point in time.

How long are the counselling therapy sessions?

The counselling therapy sessions are 50 minutes long.

How many counselling therapy sessions will I need?

This can vary from individual to individual. The first session is an intake session where we discuss your needs and expectations. From there we make a plan where we can estimate how many sessions we may require. On average, however, most clients engage for about six sessions periodically as required.

What are your session rates?

$150 per 50-minute session.

Can I claim the Medicare rebate under the Mental Health Plan?

The Medicare rebate under the Mental Health Plan is currently not offered to counsellors and psychotherapists. The Australian Counselling Association (ACA) and PACFA are lobbying the Federal Government to change this due to the need and demand for counsellors in our society. Counselling therapists however generally charge far less than clinical psychologists and the rebate difference (currently $86.15) is negligible in the final cost.

Can I claim my counselling therapy sessions on private health insurance?

Some private health insurers do offer rebates under certain plans for counselling sessions. Please check with your private health insurance provider for more details.

Are you an Accredited Counsellor?

Yes, I am an Accredited Counsellor through the Australian Counselling Association. My membership number is 14686 and you can download the Code of Ethics on the website.
